My third novel just got its first professional review, which features a nice blurb quote:
A biological thriller/mystery with a significant level of heart.
But I’m cheating if I use it. The overall review isn’t all that great. Not evocative of Maine, it says. Insufficient horror. I suppose the characters could have eaten more lobster, talked about driving down to “Bah Habah,” and, um, I dunno, been eaten by bears.
I used to write book reviews. I know how it goes. You have to say something to prove you read the book. But I have to wonder… insufficient horror for what?
