Mudville reviewed by Mudville

I noticed this week that Mudville got a mention on a list of new baseball books in Baseball America, and baseball blogger John Ames of The Arizona Daily Star took notice.

I could make much hay of this quote:

Mudville (Knopf) by Kurtis Scaletta appears Pulitzer-bound, not to mention Caldecott, Newbery, Nobel, etc.

Except context is everything. The full sentence is:

Mudville (Knopf) by Kurtis Scaletta appears Pulitzer-bound, not to mention Caldecott, Newbery, Nobel, etc., based on its title alone.

Ames’ blog is also called Mudville, in homage to the town where Mighty Casey struck out. While I haven’t read Ames before, I assume he’ll pick up a Bloggy (that’s a blog award, I think) and a Pulitzer and an Emmy and possibly wind up in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a writer, based on the title alone.
