The Music of Mudville

Sung to the tune of a Rodgers & Hammerstein tune:

The author and the rock star should be friends!
Oh, the author and the rock star should be friends!
One person likes to tell a tale; the other likes to dance and wail,
But that’s no reason that they can’t be friends!

I wrote up a bit about the songlist for Mudville for the book notes series at Large Hearted Boy, where authors talk about music. Check out more from that series if you have a chance — it makes for interesting reading. Dave who runs the place also has a series where musicians talk about books.

I didn’t read them all, but did link through to a lovely one by Mark Olson of the Jayhawks, who says:

There is a lonely train called “reading” in your youth.

That is one of the finest metaphors I’ve seen in a long time.
