Mamba Point

I’m pleased to announce that Knopf Books for Young Readers will publish my second novel, Mamba Point. This is great news for me not just because I’ll keep working with the same terrific editor and other great people that helped bring Mudville into the world, but because I’ve wanted to set a book in Liberia for a very long time. I lived in Monrovia, Liberia from 1982-1984, and want to capture both the experience of embassy kids living in developing countries, as well as the special things about Liberia that have remained with me for the 25 years since I left. I hope to do both in Mamba Point, but mostly I want to tell a good story about interesting, believable people and, er, reptiles.
