Yesterday, my wife read me this French proverb: Une maison sans chat, c’est la vie sans soleil. A house without a cat, this is a life without sunshine.
Funny she should say that when she did, because July 3 is the day it finally stops raining on a hapless town in a baseball book I know, and the day that sunshine enters the lives of its residents.
It’s also the day, six years ago, that I brought home a little black ray of sunshine I named Torii, after a Minnesota Twin.
(One of those Toriis is an Angel, now, and one isn’t.)
Last but not least, it’s my niece’s golden birthday. Happy Third Birthday, Sophie!
